Sam and Max: Together Again!
Hello Everyone-
We are very excited to tell you that Sam is finally home! Laura brought him home from the hospital at around 1:30 today. As stated earlier, he’s still being fed through an NG tube that he’ll probably use until his next operation. The doctor feels that it wouldn’t be a good idea to feed him by mouth even if he’s ready because it will be a relatively short time until then, and he would just need to relearn it all over again. So, until then, we’ll just keep practicing with the pacifier. Also, Laura needed to go through a barrage of training before Sam could come home (she’s an incredible woman). Some of this included how to care for and replace the NG tube in case it comes out, and all about caring for a “shunt baby”.
That brings me to an important topic for all those who live close by… because Sam has a shunt, he is considered very high risk. We were instructed that there are many precautions that we need to take to keep him healthy and safe until the big operation. This includes keeping him home (except for doctor visits), and limiting visitors to only those that need to be here (visiting nurses, etc.). Laura is under similar restrictions to avoid passing anything to him. We hate to do this, but any sickness would not only be a huge setback for his next procedure, but could actually be fatal. So, as you can expect, we’re taking this very seriously and ask that you postpone your visits until after his next procedure.
On a lighter note, I’ve attached the first picture that has been taken of Sam and Max together since they were born. Sam has a sly little smile, and we’re trying to figure out what he’s thinking… some ideas are:
[singlepic id=26 w=320 h=240 float=right]”Hmmm, what can I do to my ‘little’ brother?”
“Who’s the bald, chubby, pasty kid?”
“Heh, heh… I just pooted on his passy!”
“He thinks he runs this show?! There’s a new kid in town!”
“What is this; a before and after picture for Rogaine!?”
Feel free to post your own caption… We’d love to hear them!
Once again, thank all of you for all your thoughts and prayers, and we’ll keep you posted on his next procedure.
Love,
George, Laura, Sam and Max
